TV Host Hires Hate Crime Investigators After Online Trolls Share His Address
Brian Dowling Gourounlian says threats escalated when his home address was posted online, prompting him and his partner to seek professional help.
Television presenter Brian Dowling Gourounlian has hired hate crime investigators after online trolls escalated their harassment by sharing his home address. Gourounlian, co-host of The Six O’Clock Show, stated that while he has largely learned to ignore online abuse, the sharing of his address crossed a critical line.
He revealed that the abuse intensified to the point where he and his partner, Arthur, felt compelled to contact gardaí and engage private investigators specializing in hate crimes. "How can someone respond to joy with hate?" Gourounlian questioned, reflecting on the severity of the online attacks.
Gourounlian, a father of two, has developed a resilient attitude over his 25-year career in television. However, he draws a firm boundary when the safety of his children, Blake, aged four, and two-year-old Blu, is threatened.
Gourounlian's insights into confronting online trolls and the lessons learned are set to be explored further. A program titled "Toxic Threads," which is expected to delve into these issues, is scheduled to air on Monday, October 12, at 9 p.m. on Virgin Media PLAY and Virgin Media One.
