A viral online trend known as "looksmaxxing," which focuses on enhancing physical appearance through fitness and aesthetics, is a "red warning sign" for young men and indicates a significant mentorship vacuum, according to Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for Turning Point USA.

Kolvet stated in an interview that young men are actively seeking guidance and sense from online influencers due to a lack of mentors. He expressed concern that trends like "looksmaxxing," promoted by influencers such as Clavicular, are filling this void.

Clavicular, an influencer gaining traction online, advocates for "looksmaxxing" as a comprehensive form of self-improvement, suggesting that an attractive appearance positively impacts daily interactions. He has also spoken about practices like "bone smashing," involving creating microfractures in the jaw to encourage regrowth, though he advises caution and medical consultation for such methods.

Despite acknowledging Clavicular's charisma, Kolvet urged young men to shift their focus from physical appearance to character development. He emphasized the importance of cultivating faith, social connections, and pursuits with "eternal purpose and value."

"Instead of ‘looksmaxxing,’ we need to be encouraging young people to be ‘charactermaxxing,’" Kolvet said. "They need to be working on their faith life, on their social life and the things that actually have eternal purpose and value."

Kolvet directly appealed to older individuals, urging them to actively mentor younger men. He posited that providing positive role models is crucial for helping young men navigate a complex social environment and avoid seeking guidance from potentially harmful online trends.

"I can’t stress it enough, please, please, please find young men that you can mentor. And that is the big breakthrough for so many young men’s lives," Kolvet added.
