A Tucson police recruit was killed and his partner, a Pima County corrections officer, was wounded in an early morning shooting on Wednesday. Multiple suspects are currently at large, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on the 7700 block of South Enchanted Spring Drive, about 17 miles southwest of Tucson. Responding deputies found the male victim, identified as 23-year-old TPD recruit Carlos Ramirez, deceased at the scene. His 23-year-old romantic partner, a Pima County corrections officer, was transported to a hospital where she is in stable condition.

Sheriff Chris Nanos of the Pima County Sheriff's Department stated that deputies are seeking several suspects. They are described as Hispanic males, all dressed in black clothing and wearing ski masks, and were last seen in a gray Acura MDX, model years 2007-2013, possibly missing the door over the gas cap.

"This is a pretty sad day for law enforcement, today," Sheriff Nanos said at a news briefing. Tucson Police Chief Monica Prieto called the event a "tragic event and tremendous loss for...our community, this city and our department." The couple shared a child.

Investigators stated that the shootings are not believed to be connected to a separate abduction case in Tucson. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact 911.Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and Tucson Police Chief Monico Prieto speak with reporters
