Tucker Carlson's Praise for Democrat Abdul El-Sayed Sparks Controversy

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson's recent praise for Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has ignited criticism from within the MAGA movement, with El-Sayed suggesting the situation indicates a broader internal conflict.

In an appearance on CNN’s “OutFront,” El-Sayed, who is running to become the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate, addressed Carlson’s comments. While acknowledging that Carlson's endorsement was not sought, El-Sayed interpreted the situation as a sign that the MAGA base is turning on its established figures.

“I think what you’re seeing here is MAGA eating itself,” El-Sayed stated. “Folks are turning on people like Mike Rogers, because Mike Rogers was a neocon, and then he decried Donald Trump when Donald Trump came to power. Now he’s willing to do whatever Donald Trump tells him to do, so long as Donald Trump is happy with him.”

Carlson, a former Fox News host and once a close associate of former President Donald Trump, had previously stated on his show, “The Tucker Carlson Show,” that he “wouldn’t vote for Mike Rogers at gunpoint.” Rogers is El-Sayed's Republican opponent in the Michigan Senate race.

Carlson and his co-host, Saagar Enjeti, also predicted El-Sayed would win the election. While Carlson has increasingly diverged from traditional Republican stances, he did not formally endorse El-Sayed. Nevertheless, his remarks drew strong reactions from prominent figures within Trump's base, including activists Nick Fuentes and Laura Loomer.

Vice President JD Vance commented on Carlson's remarks, telling reporters at a White House press briefing, “Everybody knows that Tucker Carlson and I are friends, and I think it’s very obvious that Tucker has said some things that I disagree with.”
