Tucker Carlson asserted on Friday that President Donald Trump should be "immediately" removed from office if he contemplates the first use of nuclear weapons. Carlson questioned why such removal efforts are not already underway.
"The second any president actively considers first-use of nuclear weapons. that person should be removed from office immediately. Immediately, because that’s gotta be the red line, destroying all of humanity with a nuclear strike," Carlson stated on his program. He added, "So why isn’t there an attempt to remove him from office, like, immediately?"
Carlson, a former ally of Trump, acknowledged that the White House might deny any such suggestions. However, he countered that Trump has threatened "the total destruction" of Iran and its civilization, which he argued could only be achieved through nuclear means.
"There’s only one way to achieve that, the total destruction of a civilization, and that’s with nuclear weapons. And so, openly in public for the world to see... the U.S. president has threatened the use of nuclear weapons in this war," Carlson said, referencing comments made to Joe Kent, Trump's former director of the National Counterterrorism Center, who resigned over the Iran war.
Carlson characterized individuals who advocate for the offensive use of nuclear weapons as "dangerous," "crazy," and "criminal." He suggested such a person is "by definition a lunatic, a dangerous lunatic, who should not only be removed from any decision-making authority, but probably should go to jail, like, immediately."
He reiterated that any leader suggesting the first use of nuclear weapons "has forfeited his right to lead. He has to be removed immediately." Carlson also stated that tolerating such discussions makes a leader "unfit."
