Tuchel Questions Palmer's England Availability

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed concern over Cole Palmer's consistent withdrawal from England squads, stating the forward "misses too many opportunities" to play for his country. Palmer recently pulled out of the latest England selection, a decision that surprised many given his regular starts for Chelsea this season. However, Tuchel indicated that Palmer has been managing discomfort and pain, preventing him from competing at the highest level.

"My understanding is that he is playing with discomfort and pain, and he cannot compete at the highest level with discomfort and pain," Tuchel said. "So he withdrew and informed us, and Chelsea informed us." The manager characterized Palmer's absences as a "missed opportunity," noting that players must be present in camp to impress and be considered for selection. Palmer is reportedly abroad undergoing an injury-specific training program, accompanied by a Chelsea rehabilitation coach.

Palmer joins Declan Rice, Tino Livramento, Marcus Rashford, and Kobbie Mainoo as players who have withdrawn from the squad due to injury. Tuchel emphasized that he does not believe players prioritize their clubs over national team duty, stating that the competitive environment and the desire to represent England are strong among the squad. "We focus on the guys who absolutely want to play for England," he added.

England is preparing for a match against Spain at Wembley, their first since the World Cup. The team concluded the tournament with a bronze medal win against France but faced criticism for their semi-final loss to Argentina.
