Tuchel Believes England Won't Find Kane Successor for a Decade

England manager Thomas Tuchel acknowledged that finding a successor to captain Harry Kane will be a significant challenge, potentially taking up to ten years. Kane recently scored his 87th goal for his country, a precision strike that contributed to a 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic.

Tuchel, speaking after the match, noted that Kane is now just 13 goals away from reaching a century for England. "He is closing in, he scored again," Tuchel stated, observing that Kane's consistent goal-scoring makes it seem as though he finds the net in every game. "He is the highest level of goalscorer, of finishing."

The England manager has reportedly given up the search for a direct replacement, stating, "You will not get another Harry Kane. We look for different options and solutions." He added that while someone else will eventually emerge, "it might be another 10 years."

Kane, who debuted for England in 2015, has consistently improved his game and sets a high standard for his teammates. "He is not behind, he is not slow, he is not doing his shoes," Tuchel explained. "He is the first one out there and the first one to push everyone and that is his mindset. He became a very, very hard-working forward on top of his finishing skills. He is a complete package."

Tuchel, who managed Kane at Bayern Munich after his transfer from Tottenham, recalled that Bayern president Uli Hoeness considered the signing to be the best in the club's history. "That is so beautiful as it tells me everyone can see his true value and his personality," said Tuchel. "And that he imposed that into a big club like Bayern Munich and he gets the full praise for it and that is very, very impressive. It is not easy to change and to come to Bayern Munich when you win, win, win and it is a big club. You are under the spotlight and he won everyone over with his quality, work ethic and his personality. It is a beautiful story."

Kane surpassed Wayne Rooney to become England's all-time leading scorer in March 2023 with his 53rd goal. He now leads Rooney by 35 goals and is on track to potentially be considered the greatest England player ever.

Kane is also nearing Peter Shilton's record of 125 caps for England. He could match Shilton's appearance record in the upcoming Nations League match against the Czech Republic at Wembley on Tuesday, provided he plays against Croatia on Saturday.
