TSA Officers Discover Drugs Hidden Inside Computer at Phoenix Airport

TSA officers at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport discovered suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and ketamine concealed within a modified Apple Mac mini desktop computer. The discovery occurred when a TSA officer noticed an unusual mass and wiring inside the device during a routine X-ray screening of a passenger's carry-on bag.

Lead TSA Officer Logan Stortz initially mistook the anomaly for a test within the Transportation Security Administration's screening procedures. "When I found out it was drugs, I was very surprised," Stortz stated.

Upon closer examination of the carry-on bag, TSA Officer Isaiah Martinez Jr. confirmed that something was amiss with the computer. "I was in shock, noticed something was awry and immediately notified a supervisor," Martinez said. A second screening revealed a hidden area within the computer containing a mass and additional signs of tampering.

An explosives specialist further inspected the device, finding plastic-wrapped material including a crystallized substance and an orange pill-like item. This led officers to contact law enforcement. Preliminary field tests indicated the substances were suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and ketamine. The passenger, whose identity has not been released, was arrested by Phoenix police.

Supervisory TSA Officer Emily Price noted the unusual nature of the concealment. "The way this was concealed was unusual," she said. Another TSA officer commented that attempts to smuggle illegal items through security are likely more common than the public realizes.

TSA's primary role at security checkpoints is to detect weapons, explosives, and other aviation threats. When suspected illegal drugs are found during screening, TSA officers alert law enforcement.
