Trump Welcomes Mike Tyson to Syracuse Rally, Joking About His Security Capabilities

President Donald Trump introduced boxing legend Mike Tyson at a campaign rally in Syracuse, New York, on October 9, 2026, where Trump was endorsing Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman.

Trump and Tyson traveled to Syracuse together on Air Force One. During the rally, Trump spoke about Tyson's formidable past as a heavyweight champion, remarking on his power and presence.

"I see somebody in the audience that I will never fight, I promise. But I remember when Mike [Tyson] was in his prime, when he was the heavyweight champion of the world. He’d stand in the corner and his people would all be holding him back. He wanted to kill whoever it was," Trump said. "He was a very dangerous person actually, and he was one of the greatest fighters in history."

Later, Trump brought Tyson on stage and joked about his role in protecting Blakeman. "I see him standing right next to Bruce Blakeman. Bruce wants a little protection, he’s got the right guy. Bruce knows who to stand near," Trump quipped.

Tyson also addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude for Trump's invitation. "Thank you very much. I'm just happy to be here with my president, President Trump, and there's no way in the world I would ever be here if it wasn't for a president like Donald Trump. Thank you," Tyson said.

Trump also mentioned New York Yankees president Randy Levine, who was present at the rally. Blakeman is running against incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul in the upcoming general election.

Trump's appearance in Syracuse came after a planned trip to the Alabama-Georgia football game was canceled due to Hurricane Isaias.
