Former President Donald Trump commented on the mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy case Friday, predicting the Massachusetts mother would face a second trial for the murder of her three children. The comments came minutes after Massachusetts Superior Court Judge William F. Sullivan declared the mistrial.

"I assume there’s going to be another trial. It’s a terrible situation," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can’t be worse."

Jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict after deliberating for seven days in the trial of Clancy, 36. She had been charged with three counts of first-degree murder. Clancy had admitted to strangling her children: Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months. Her defense centered on an insanity plea, arguing she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings in January 2023.

"But you’ll find out what the price to pay is. There’ll be a price. It’s going to be a mental institution or jail or something. But I guess they’re going to go through another trial. It’s too bad," Trump added.

He cited the case's high visibility as a reason for his awareness, stating, "It’s on television so much. It’s hard not to follow it."
