Trump Vows to Create 'AI Force' While Dismissing AI Fears

Former President Donald Trump announced Saturday his intention to establish a new "AI Force," drawing a parallel to the creation of Space Force during his previous term. Trump also stated he would appoint a dedicated AI czar in the near future.

This announcement comes as Trump continues to characterize fears surrounding artificial intelligence as a "hoax." He asserted on social media that the United States would not impede the advancement of the AI industry but would instead "cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows."

Despite his reassurances about fostering AI growth, Trump indicated the U.S. would form an "AI Force" to address potential negative aspects of the technology. He suggested that any harmful elements could be managed through existing legal and justice systems.

Space Force, established in 2020, operates under the Department of Defense and is the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. The creation of another branch of the armed forces would necessitate congressional action.

The White House had not immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the proposed "AI Force."

Trump's remarks follow recent warnings from prominent figures in the technology sector. Leaders such as Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, have publicly called for a slower pace of AI development to ensure that the technology's progress does not outstrip efforts in alignment and monitoring.

Some members of Congress have also advocated for increased oversight and safeguards for AI development. Previously, Trump had dismissed these concerns, labeling them a "HOAX" and alleging a "SICK conspiracy" related to AI.

David Sacks, co-chair of Trump's science and technology council, echoed similar sentiments recently, suggesting that existing regulations might be sufficient. Sacks, who previously served as the White House's AI and crypto czar, stated in a Politico conference that the U.S. already has numerous laws and regulations pertaining to AI, overseen by various administrative agencies.
