Trump Vows No Attacks on Iran Before Midterm Elections

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the United States will not resume attacks against Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, stating that his administration is engaged in "productive discussions" with the Islamic Republic.

Trump made the declaration on the social media platform Truth Social, countering reports suggesting he was contemplating military strikes against Iran prior to voters heading to the polls to decide control of Congress. "We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran," Trump wrote. He added, "while Iran is in very bad condition, both Economically and Militarily and while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, with Oil flowing in Record Numbers of Barrels through the Hormuz Strait... we will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections."

The president's statement comes amid speculation, fueled by reports from The Atlantic, that he had been considering strikes against Iran before the midterms. Trump has long been rumored to be contemplating a resumption of attacks against the country after the elections.

In his post, Trump also highlighted that the U.S. had secured 22 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz and reiterated his administration's commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
