DALLAS — Former President Donald Trump addressed the Republican Party's inaugural midterm convention on Wednesday, urging attendees to help him "finish the job" and emphasizing the stakes of the upcoming elections.
Speaking to thousands at the American Airlines Center, Trump asked supporters to "pretend that I’m on the ballot" and stressed that their votes would determine whether the country "stumbles at the starting gate of the next 250 years or surges forward."
Trump outlined a plan for potential Republican control over the next two years, including efforts to end cash bail, permanently seal the border, and pass a healthcare plan. He also vowed to campaign in competitive House and Senate races to promote his agenda on tax cuts, energy policy, and border enforcement.
"Vote Republican and we will leave the world in our dust for generations to come," Trump stated, contrasting this with a warning that electing Democrats would lead to a decade of recovery. He characterized opposition to his policies as a "sick cloud of communism" that must be defeated.
"We will defeat communism in America and vote for American freedom," he declared. The event featured several hours of speakers, including congressional candidates and cabinet secretaries, competing with the opening night of the NFL season.
