President Trump revealed new uniform designs for the United States Space Force, drawing inspiration from the 1997 science fiction film "Starship Troopers." The commander-in-chief shared mock-ups of the black and grey uniforms on social media, describing them as "inspired by the discipline of the Starship Trooper uniform" but "modernized for the guardians of the space domain."

The uniforms have drawn comparisons on social media to those worn by Imperial officers in the "Star Wars" franchise. The original "Starship Troopers" is set in the 23rd century and depicts humanity at war with insectoid aliens. Director Paul Verhoeven has stated the film was intended as a satire of fascism.

The uniform announcement was part of a broader social media engagement over the weekend, which also included an image of the moon captioned "The Moon is Ours."

The United States Space Force was established by Trump in December 2019. The president also announced plans last month to create a new Space Force Academy, intended to train future civilian and military aerospace experts, drawing a parallel to existing service academies like West Point and Annapolis.

Earlier this year, the Space Force released a manual, "Space Warfighting: A Framework for Planners," outlining its strategy to defend U.S. space capabilities and achieve "space superiority." The branch defined space superiority as the ability to operate without prohibitive interference from space or counterspace threats, while denying adversaries the same capability.
