President Donald Trump has unveiled a mock-up of a limited-edition United States passport that features his image and a message for incoming travelers. The design, intended to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, displays Trump's likeness on a page opposite an illustration of the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration of Independence.
Trump shared the image on his social media platform, Truth Social, with the caption, "The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’ President DJT." Another page in the mock-up includes the text "United States of America 250."
The State Department is rolling out these passports as part of the broader "America250" celebration. A State Department official previously indicated that the new designs would be available to any American citizen who applies for a passport during the rollout, while supplies last.
The release of these passports coincides with an increase in stricter vetting policies for foreign visitors to the U.S., emphasizing the expectation that tourists and nonimmigrants will respect and adhere to U.S. laws and institutions. These tighter rules come ahead of major international events hosted in the U.S., including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of international visitors.
Alongside the passport initiative, the "America250" celebrations include other planned events such as a Grand Prix race on the National Mall in August. Earlier this month, a UFC fight was held on the White House South Lawn as part of the commemoration.
