President Trump is scheduled to lead an honorary lap around the IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix course in Washington D.C. on Sunday. The event will precede races featuring some of the world's fastest race cars on the city's streets. An administration source confirmed the plan to The Post on Tuesday.
The 1.66-mile race track begins near Capitol Hill, curves around the National Archives, and crosses the National Mall before looping near the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Following the honorary lap, President Trump will be joined by first lady Melania Trump. The event is part of a series of sporting events organized to celebrate America's 250th birthday.
Festivities for the grand prix are set to commence at 11:30 a.m. ET, with the official green flag for the race waving shortly after 1 p.m. ET.
This marks another occasion of President Trump presiding over a sporting event; he previously hosted a UFC card on the White House South Lawn on June 14.
