President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks at the Pentagon.

Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to attend the observance in New York, and other administration officials will be present at the ceremony in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the White House confirmed.

This year marks 25 years since the al-Qaida militant attacks involving hijacked planes that resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths across three locations and significantly altered American foreign policy and national security.

When asked by reporters about his plans after returning from Houston on Friday, Trump stated, "Because I'm going to the Pentagon." He was responding to published reports indicating he would not attend the New York ceremony.

In a social media post on Friday, Trump called Sept. 11 "a day to remember the victims, and their beautiful family members."

Last year, Trump attended the Pentagon ceremony and recounted details from the day, including accounts from passengers on the hijacked aircraft. The president, who is from New York, last attended the ground zero ceremony in 2024.
