Former President Donald Trump is slated to speak at the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner, according to the White House.
The event, originally held in April, was postponed following a shooting incident that occurred during the dinner. The WHCA announced the rescheduling and the decision to honor individuals who demonstrated significant service during the incident.
Officer Gonzales, who the WHCA stated played a crucial role during the shooting, will be recognized for his courage and dedication to service. The staff of the Washington Hilton, the venue where the incident took place, will also receive special recognition for their professionalism and commitment to guests despite the "harrowing situation."
Trump had previously attended the Correspondents' Dinner as President in April, marking his first appearance at the event as president. Following the April shooting, Trump had indicated his intention to criticize the media during his speech but suggested the incident might alter his remarks. He had previously applauded the WHCA for rescheduling the event, calling it a "sign of Strength and Fortitude."
