Trump Taps Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to Lead AI Task Force
The task force, dubbed the 'Super Intelligence Force,' aims to ensure American leadership in artificial intelligence development.
President Donald Trump has appointed Jay Clayton, his director of national intelligence, to head a new government task force focused on artificial intelligence. Trump announced the formation of the "Super Intelligence Force" on Sunday, a move that follows a recent White House meeting with executives from leading AI companies.
During that meeting, Trump stated that AI company executives had agreed to a voluntary accord for self-policing the development of artificial intelligence. The newly formed task force is intended to coordinate federal efforts to maintain American leadership in the field, which Trump characterized as potentially more significant than the Industrial Revolution or the internet.
The task force will engage with various stakeholders, including consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and AI companies. Members of the task force will also include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael, and Director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor. The group will report directly to Trump and his chief of staff, Susie Wiles.
