Despite soaring gas prices and concerns about the economy, supporters of former President Donald Trump in Texas are maintaining their loyalty and focusing on what they describe as a larger threat to the country's future: the rise of progressive policies and socialism.

At rallies in Lubbock and Corpus Christi, cities deeply connected to the oil and gas industry, attendees acknowledged the financial strain of higher costs but largely expressed unwavering support for Trump. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline had risen to approximately $4.25, a nearly 40% increase from about $3.05 a year prior, according to AAA.

"I do experience that costs are high, but I'm in for the long haul and I support everything that he's been doing," one supporter told Fox News Digital at the Lubbock rally. Another attendee, Stephen Elsher of Corpus Christi, stated that while he wishes the economy would improve, he believes Republicans are the key to that turnaround.

Trump himself addressed the rising fuel costs during his rallies. He pointed to increased American oil production and a recent energy deal with Venezuela as measures aimed at lowering prices. "Our country is making a fortune while people have to pay more at the pump," Trump said, predicting that prices would "come down really fast."

He announced the arrival of the first million barrels of Venezuelan oil secured through an agreement with the South American country. The White House stated this oil would be refined in Texas and provided at no cost to U.S. taxpayers. This agreement, according to the administration, expands American access to energy resources and aims to boost supply, potentially lowering consumer costs.

Beyond economic concerns, many supporters voiced anxieties about the direction of the Democratic Party and the increasing prominence of democratic socialist candidates. Trump repeatedly warned his supporters against what he characterized as a "radical left Democrat communist" agenda, arguing that such policies would lead to tax increases, threaten jobs in the Texas oil and gas sector, and weaken border security.

"We can't lose our republic," said Susie, a Corpus Christi supporter, expressing concern that the country is under threat from Democrats, socialists, and communists. Elizabeth Trigo, attending the Lubbock rally with her daughters, emphasized that the midterm elections are crucial for the nation's future and for preserving opportunities for the next generation. "The most important thing is opportunity again. Trump is on the side of opportunity," Trigo stated. She added that she wants Trump to continue his focus on issues like the war on drugs and countering socialism.

For these voters, the approaching midterm elections represent a critical juncture, with their support for Trump stemming from a broader concern for the nation's political and economic trajectory.
