President Trump has indicated that direct threats against him from Iran are a significant factor in the ongoing conflict between the two nations. Speaking to reporters on the final leg of a journey from Turkey, Trump noted his prominent position on Iran's list of targets.
"I have read all the time I'm number one on their list," Trump said. "But if I go, you go, right?"
The president's remarks came after an incident in July where Secret Service agents reportedly ordered window shades closed on a decoy plane during takeoff from Ankara, a detail that prompted questions about his travel security.
Escalating Tensions
The turbulent relationship between the U.S. and Iran has seen a marked escalation, with the U.S. bombing Iran's nuclear research facilities in 2025 and initiating a naval blockade and expansive bombing campaign this year. These actions have prompted a new round of threats from Iran against Trump.
In response to reported threats of assassination attempts, Trump posted on Truth Social in July, stating, "1,000 missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat."
Direct Threats
Following the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, tensions have intensified. Reports from the funeral service showed participants carrying a banner that read "#KillTrump." In a subsequent event in Tehran, a building displayed a large mural depicting Trump in a coffin, accompanied by the phrases "We will kill Trump" and "Blood for blood."
Iran has denied involvement in previous plots against Trump. However, the messages delivered after Khamenei's death and amid reports of civilian casualties from U.S. and Israeli strikes suggest that the conflict is far from over, with Trump himself identified as a target for revenge. The U.S. president's security measures and public statements highlight the personal dimension of the ongoing hostilities.
