Trump Suggests Omar Could Face Jail Time Amid Citizenship Probe

President Donald Trump stated Tuesday that Rep. Ilhan Omar could face jail time in addition to deportation, labeling the Minnesota Democrat "a disgrace to our country" as she is reportedly under federal investigation regarding allegations about her citizenship.

During an announcement in the Oval Office, Trump responded to a question about whether issues with Omar's age could lead to her deportation. "Well, she could be. She could also go to jail," Trump said. "You know, they keep talking about deportation. No, she could go to jail."

Trump did not specify a criminal charge or present new evidence against Omar during the exchange. "This is just my opinion," Trump added, describing the congresswoman as "a very dishonest person" who "hates our country."

These remarks followed statements by border czar Tom Homan, who suggested Omar could lose her citizenship and be deported if immigration fraud is proven. Federal agents reportedly searched Omar's Washington, D.C. home on October 12, seizing her cellphone and other belongings as part of the investigation. The probe is said to center on allegations that Omar or her father misrepresented her birth year on immigration paperwork, which could affect whether she qualified for citizenship through him at age 18.

Omar has denied any wrongdoing. She and other Democrats have characterized the investigation as politically motivated persecution targeting a vocal critic of the Trump administration, particularly with midterm elections approaching.

Speaking on "The Big Weekend Show," Homan noted that the outcome would depend on the evidence, stating, "Of course, if you lie during the naturalization process, there is a process to denaturalize somebody. We’ve done it before. And certainly, if the evidence points that way, that could happen."

Homan indicated that Omar would be held to the same standards as any other individual but declined to discuss specific findings. "I’m not going to get ahead of the bureau or HSI, but I’ve been told they have a strong case, and we’ll let the evidence lead where it leads," he said.

During the White House exchange, Trump also criticized Omar's commentary on the United States, questioning her role in advising on American governance after immigrating from Somalia. "Then she comes over here, and she says that she wants to tell us how to run America," Trump said. "She wants to tell us how to run the United States of America."

He also commented on her assertions of constitutional rights, calling her election to Congress "amazing."

Trump concluded the conversation by expressing hope for fair treatment for Omar. "I hope they treat her fairly," he said.

Omar's office was contacted for comment. Max Bacall of Fox News Digital contributed to this report.
