Trump Slams Judge in Charlie Kirk Murder Trial for Delays

Former President Donald Trump on Friday criticized the judge presiding over the murder trial of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, alleging the judicial process is taking too long. Trump took to social media to express his disappointment with District Court Judge Tony Graf, stating the case should conclude much sooner than the extended timeline suggests.

"The judge in the Charlie Kirk case is doing a terrible job! This case should be tried within a month, not three years — and it should be over with!" Trump wrote. He further asserted, "The judge is desecrating the memory of the Great Charlie Kirk, while taking forever to ask questions that people already know the answer to."

Trump's comments come as Judge Graf is considering a request from the defense for Tyler Robinson, the accused murderer, to postpone the trial. Robinson's legal team has requested that jury selection begin in late 2029, citing the substantial volume of evidence and the complexity of selecting a jury in a high-profile case.

Charlie Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was 31 years old.

In contrast to the defense's request, Kirk's family, represented by Erika Kirk, has urged the court to proceed with the trial as early as 2027. Their legal team filed a motion describing the defense's proposed timeline as "grossly out of line" and highlighting the impact of delays on Kirk's two young children.

Robinson's attorneys argued that rushing the trial could be detrimental to all parties involved. They stated that an expedited process might create unrealistic expectations, cause counsel to overlook essential legal procedures, and potentially jeopardize Robinson's right to a reliable capital proceeding.

Robinson has pleaded not guilty to all charges, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors are reportedly seeking the death penalty in the case. Judge Graf was expected to announce a trial schedule on Friday afternoon.
