Donald Trump shared the first photograph of Alec Neel Vance, the newborn son of Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance. The baby was born over the weekend, marking the first time in 156 years that a child has been born to a sitting vice president.

Trump posted the image on Monday, writing, "Congratulations! A perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family." The photograph shows the infant, Alec Neel Vance, being held by his six-year-old brother Vivek, with his four-year-old sister Mirabel also pictured.

The Vance family announced the birth of their son on Sunday. "Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother," Vance stated on X. He also expressed gratitude to "the incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit" for their care.

The Vances, who met at Yale Law School and married in 2014, were expecting their fourth child since announcing Usha's pregnancy in January. The birth of Alec makes the Vance children Ewan, nine, Vivek, six, and Mirabel, four. The family's diverse background has long been a point of interest in Washington, with Usha being the daughter of Indian immigrant academics and Vance having chronicled his upbringing in his memoir "Hillbilly Elegy."

Usha Vance, 40, and JD Vance, 41, welcomed their new son into a White House that has seen other recent additions to staff families. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt had her second child in May, and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller's wife Katie recently delivered their fourth child.

The last instance of a vice president's family welcoming a newborn while in office was in 1870, when Schuyler Colfax, Vice President under Ulysses S. Grant, and his wife Ellen had a son. This makes the Vance family's experience a notable event in U.S. vice presidential history.
