Trump Scraps Plans for Livestreamed Execution of Fort Hood Shooter

President Trump announced Thursday that plans to livestream the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan have been canceled. Hasan, convicted in the 2009 massacre that killed 13 people and wounded 32 others, had been scheduled to be executed by firing squad on December 3.

Trump stated on Truth Social that while he believed livestreaming the execution could serve as a strong deterrent, "many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die." He added, "He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed."

The President did note that the immediate family and victims of Hasan's rampage will have the option to view the execution if they choose.

Earlier plans for a public viewing were revealed by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. The prospect of a livestreamed execution drew bipartisan criticism. The United States has not carried out a public execution since the 1930s.
