Donald Trump has a top fundraiser, Meredith O'Rourke, whom he has nicknamed the 'princess of darkness' for her effectiveness in securing donations. O'Rourke, who has been in Trump's orbit since his 2016 campaign, is known for her persistent calls to company executives and lobbyists, soliciting contributions for Trump's various projects and political operations.
According to a Wall Street Journal analysis, Trump has raised over $800 million for different enterprises since returning to the White House. O'Rourke is credited with bringing in a significant portion of this funding. She has been known to ask for sums ranging from $5 million to $50 million, often emphasizing the President's personal interest in the donations.
O'Rourke's role involves soliciting funds for initiatives such as the White House ballroom and Freedom 250 events, which celebrate national holidays.
She has been observed attending fundraising events with Trump, taking notes on conversations, and has been known to follow up with donors for large sums. Some donors have reported being asked for more money shortly after making substantial contributions or attending thank-you events.
Despite occasional reports of O'Rourke feeling uncomfortable with certain requests, a spokeswoman for Trump and O'Rourke stated that such claims were "laughable," emphasizing Trump's gratitude to donors and his commitment to the American people over special interests.
O'Rourke, who is not a government employee, has had close access to the President, appearing at the White House, on Air Force One, and at private donor engagements. Trump has reportedly rewarded her with positions on the boards of the National Park Foundation and Trump Media & Technology Group. Lobbyist Brian Ballard described her as "tough but charming" and noted that she has "the president’s 100 percent trust and respect."
