New images released Wednesday show former President Donald Trump examining a poster board while aboard Air Force One. While much of the board remains obscured, discernible text appears to relate to the Kennedy Center and includes the word "DEMOLISH." The precise nature of the poster's content and its implications for the venerated performing arts venue are unclear.
The photos emerged following Trump's return from a rally in North Carolina. They have fueled speculation regarding the future of the Kennedy Center, which was reportedly "temporarily" closed after a board composed of Trump loyalists voted to shutter it citing alleged safety concerns.
Earlier in the week, a federal judge ruled that Trump could not affix his name to the building. Trump had previously indicated that he would not support the Kennedy Center financially or address its needs unless his administration received public recognition. "For me to go and fix it...and then have to subsidize it for years to come...I think that the Trump administration should certainly have recognition," Trump told reporters on Wednesday. "Because frankly if we don’t do that, it’s going to close, it’ll end up being ripped down."
Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, was observed carrying poster boards as Trump and other officials disembarked from the plane. The White House has not yet commented on the content of the poster board.
