Trump Roasts WNBA, Praises Enes Kanter and Dennis Rodman at Oklahoma Rally
Former President Donald Trump used his campaign stop in Durant, Oklahoma, to criticize the WNBA's policies on transgender athletes and give a special shoutout to former NBA player Enes Kanter and basketball personality Dennis Rodman.
During a campaign rally in Durant, Oklahoma, on Thursday, former President Donald Trump addressed the ongoing debate surrounding transgender athletes in women's sports, specifically mentioning the WNBA.
Trump, speaking at the Choctaw Event Center, criticized the league for not having clear policies on eligibility, stating, "Have men playing in women’s sports?" The crowd responded with boos.
He then called out Enes Kanter, who was in attendance, saying, "Where the hell is Freedom?" Trump continued, speaking about Kanter, "I mean, in all fairness, this guy is a monster. He dreams of playing against women. Like he’s willing to say that he’s a woman in order to play against women. And I don’t think he really believes that, but that’s OK."
Trump also acknowledged Dennis Rodman, calling him the "all-time rebounding king."
Following the rally, Kanter posted on social media platform X, detailing conversations he had with Trump and Rodman. Kanter announced he had invited Trump to his first WNBA game in 2027 and stated that Rodman had agreed to coach him during the offseason to prepare for the WNBA season.
"Can’t wait to become the greatest female @WNBA player of all time. Rules Are Rules!" Kanter wrote.
Kanter has been vocal on the issue of transgender athletes in women's sports. Earlier this season, he declared himself eligible for the 2027 WNBA draft. He has also been involved in public exchanges with WNBA players regarding the league's policies.
According to Kanter, the current WNBA rules allow an individual to be eligible by simply declaring themselves a woman. This stance has been amplified by figures like Royce White, who, along with Kanter, has publicly critiqued the women's basketball league's approach to the matter.
