Former President Donald Trump has renewed his support for a bill that would establish Daylight Saving Time as a permanent fixture, arguing that the biannual clock changes are "foolish" and "inconvenient."
Trump stated that people are "sick and tired" of adjusting their clocks, and that the practice is also detrimental to health, contributing to anxiety. He claimed that making Daylight Saving Time permanent would offer numerous advantages, including a potential reduction in crime rates, fewer car accidents, particularly involving pedestrians, and a lower risk of cardiac issues, stroke, and seasonal depression. He also suggested it would make it safer for children to walk home from school.
Despite Trump's endorsement, the proposal has faced skepticism from some within his own political party. The current system of adjusting clocks forward in the spring and backward in the fall has been a subject of debate for decades, with arguments both for and against its continuation.
