Trump Redesigns Triumphal Arch as 'Military Complex' With Drones and Snipers

Former President Donald Trump has proposed a new vision for his planned triumphal arch near the National Mall, redesigning it as a "Military Complex/Triumphal Arch" equipped with drone capabilities and sniper platforms. Trump announced the updated design in a social media post, stating it was at the "strong request of the United States Military, and for National Security purposes."

According to the revised plan, the 250-foot-tall structure would feature snipers positioned on the roof and plaza areas, with substantial sniper ammunition storage. This latest iteration comes after previous discussions and plans for the arch, which had been in development since at least January.

The project has faced obstacles, including a determination by the National Park Service that the arch would negatively impact historic sites like the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. Despite these concerns, the administration appeared prepared to proceed.

This development echoes a pattern seen with Trump's "Ballroom/Military Complex," a project that also acquired a "military complex" designation after encountering regulatory hurdles. That project, which sits atop a secure bunker, received Supreme Court approval after lower courts questioned its construction without congressional authorization. Critics suggest that Trump frequently invokes national security justifications when facing opposition to his projects or policies.

The former president also recently accused the media of posing a "threat to our National Security" amidst backlash to a White House press ban. The feasibility and actual military endorsement of the "Military Complex/Triumphal Arch" remain unconfirmed.
