President Donald Trump described his final phone call with the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, stating the senator was pushing the "SAVE America Act" and had just returned from a trip to Ukraine.

Trump, who spoke to NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday, recounted that Graham called him in the early evening of the day he died. Graham, 71, passed away on Saturday evening from a "brief and sudden illness," according to his office.

“He said we’re all set for the SAVE America Act. He was pushing the SAVE America Act like crazy,” Trump told the outlet. “He got back and said he just landed from Ukraine. I said, ‘That’s a long trip to make.’ He sounded a little tired, but perfect. But a little bit tired.”

Trump described Graham, 80, as “family” and expressed shock at the senator’s abrupt death. “He’s going to be appreciated more now than he was when he was living,” Trump predicted.
