Trump Rallies New York Crowd for Blakeman, Promising Economic Revival
Former President Donald Trump urged voters to elect Republicans statewide, focusing on gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman's challenge to incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul.
President Donald Trump returned to his home state of New York on Friday night, rallying supporters in Syracuse to back Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections, particularly highlighting Bruce Blakeman's bid to unseat Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul.
During the rally, Trump touted his administration's economic policies, promising lower taxes, cheaper energy, and safer streets for New Yorkers if Republicans are elected. "We're in the Golden Age of America," Trump declared, urging the crowd to bring the same enthusiasm that fueled his presidential campaigns to the ballot box.
Trump positioned Blakeman's challenge to Hochul as a critical race for the state's future. "He'll save this state. He'll turn the state around and I'll help him from the White House," Trump stated, vowing his support for Blakeman's governorship. He criticized Hochul's administration over New York's tax rates, energy costs, and public safety, arguing that Blakeman would revitalize the state's economy by promoting domestic energy production and reducing costs for families.
The former president also pointed to the planned $100 billion semiconductor complex by Micron in central New York as an example of the economic potential achievable under Republican leadership. "This will soon be the home to the largest semiconductor manufacturing facility ever built in the Western Hemisphere," Trump said, referencing the project's projected 50,000 jobs across the state.
Blakeman, who joined Trump on stage, echoed the call for a Republican resurgence. He pledged to cut taxes and utility bills, prioritize public safety, and foster a more business-friendly environment in New York. "We have to create good jobs, good benefits to keep our young people here," Blakeman stated. "We gotta look at business not as the enemy, but as a partner."
Trump also lent his support to Republican congressional candidates Kailee Buller, challenging Democrat Rep. John Mannion in New York's 22nd District, and Anthony Constantino, running for the open 21st District seat.
The rally featured a surprise appearance by former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, who expressed his support for Trump. "I'm just happy to be up here with my president, President Trump," Tyson said. Trump, in turn, acknowledged Tyson's legendary status with a jest, "I don't want to fight him."
As Election Day nears, Trump emphasized the importance of voter turnout, stating, "We're going to elect a Republican House and Republican Senate."
