Former President Donald Trump suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz the "Trump Strait" amidst renewed hostilities between the U.S. and Iran. Trump made the remarks as U.S. military operations targeted Iranian air defense sites, radar systems, and other facilities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The U.S. military stated it struck air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets, facilities, mine-laying capabilities, and communications sites connected to the IRGC. In response, Iran's Foreign Ministry claimed on Wednesday that the U.S. had attacked civilian areas and infrastructure in the provinces of Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, and Kerman, alleging that a wedding ceremony in Kuhestak was struck, resulting in casualties.

CENTCOM spokesperson Navy Captain Tim Hawkins stated, "We are aware of reports, which originated from Iranian state media. The U.S. military never targets civilians, unlike the IRGC." The IRGC claimed to have launched retaliatory strikes on U.S. bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain, along with an additional U.S. facility in Iraq, overnight Tuesday.

These escalating tensions follow a pause of approximately one month in active hostilities between the two nations. The U.S. military previously struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island on Sunday, which it said were preparing to fire rockets carrying naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz.

"Like America itself, it would be ‘hotter’ than ever before," Trump said when floating the renaming idea. The suggestion was made as the strategic waterway remains a focal point of regional tensions and international commerce.
