Trump Praises Ohio Senator's Athleticism, Comments on Physique

Donald Trump lauded Senator Jon Husted's physical attributes during a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday, recounting a moment where he 'looked the Republican up and down.' The former president's comments came as he campaigns for Republican candidates in the lead-up to the midterm elections.

'I started examining his body because I didn’t know he was a great athlete, and I looked, and I watched up and down,' Trump told the crowd, with Husted present. 'I looked at his a**, and I looked at the whole, and then I looked at his hands. He's got these like claws,' he added, eliciting laughter from the audience.

Trump explained that former NFL coach Jon Gruden had introduced him to Husted, mentioning they were college teammates at the University of Dayton in 1985. Gruden described Husted as 'the best player on the team.' Trump later commented on Husted's physique again when the senator joined him on stage, remarking, 'Wow, he’s really changed since you all learned how great an athlete he was.' He added that hitting Husted on the back had hurt his hand, describing the senator as 'like a piece of steel.'

The rally occurred as Trump faces the prospect of Republicans losing control of both the House and the Senate in the upcoming elections. Husted, who was appointed to fill JD Vance's former Senate seat, is trailing Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown in recent polling. Trump has been actively campaigning for endorsed candidates, urging supporters to back them as if his own name were on the ballot.

During the speech, Trump also criticized Democratic candidate Sherrod Brown for supporting policies he characterized as allowing 'men playing in women’s sports.' He also praised Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, whose polling indicates he is facing a challenge from his Democratic opponent. Trump has historically seen success in Ohio, having won the state in his previous presidential runs.
