Trump Praises Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham at Ohio Rally
Former President Donald Trump lauded the Indiana Fever player for her perceived popularity and appearance during a campaign event.
Former President Donald Trump commented on Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham during a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday night. Trump referred to Cunningham as "beautiful" and suggested she would be an asset for increasing game attendance.
"Sophie is a beautiful young woman. You probably wouldn’t mind her on the team, not to help you with points, but to help you with attendance. The attendance would be great," Trump said during the event.
Trump also acknowledged the potential political sensitivity of his remarks, adding, "You’re not allowed to say that anymore, however, as a politician. Please, please, let me take it back. Anytime a politician says a woman is beautiful, that’s generally the end of his political career in the modern-day politic world."
Cunningham has become a notable figure for the Indiana Fever, particularly for her defense of teammate Caitlin Clark. Her public profile has also been amplified by past statements regarding her views on transgender athletes participating in women's sports. In a previous comment, Cunningham stated, "I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men." She further elaborated, "It's really important to protect children, and that's little girls who are also involved in that category."
Cunningham's jersey has been listed as a top seller for the WNBA on Fanatics.
