Trump Plans to Convert Florida Golf Club into Camp David-Style Presidential Retreat

President Donald Trump has announced plans to convert his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, into a secure retreat modeled after Camp David. The proposed facility would be designed to host future presidents, international summits, and foreign dignitaries.

Trump stated in the Oval Office that the initiative was suggested by federal security personnel, including the military and Secret Service, rather than being driven by personal ambition. He expressed willingness to move forward with the plan if federal agencies deem it appropriate.

According to Trump, the golf club's location offers significant security advantages. He highlighted the absence of surrounding residential structures or high-rise buildings that could pose security risks, allowing for enhanced safety measures. "You don't have houses with people hiding behind windows," Trump noted, emphasizing the lack of overlooking vantage points. This comes after Secret Service agents thwarted an assassination attempt on Trump at the same golf course in 2024.

The property's proximity to the airport is another key advantage cited for logistical convenience. Trump mentioned that the site is only about two minutes from the airport, enabling swift transitions for official visitors.

"It's a great idea, and it'll be used a lot," Trump said, though a name for the converted retreat has not yet been decided. The White House indicated that the retreat would be built for future presidents to "hold important meetings and utilize the amenities of a world-class property." Future presidents using the resort would also receive complimentary memberships.

While Trump has not used Camp David as frequently as some past presidents, he did host a Cabinet meeting there in July. The proposed project would likely be completed after his potential return to office.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump explained that the concept originated directly with federal security personnel rather than personal ambition, noting he agreed to the plan after being approached by law enforcement officials
