Trump Offers U.S. Aid to Russia Following Plague Institute Death
President states the U.S. will assist Russia after a laboratory worker died at a plague research facility in Siberia.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that the United States is prepared to offer assistance to Russia following the death of a laboratory worker at a plague research institute in Siberia. Trump described the situation as a "big problem for Russia."
The laboratory worker, identified as 28-year-old Daria Shipilova, reportedly fell ill and died under undisclosed circumstances at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute. The incident prompted authorities to quarantine dozens of individuals.
"Well, I hate to see them having it. It's a rough disease," Trump told reporters at the White House before departing for a trip to Nebraska. He added, "We'll help. Anybody that has that kind of a problem, we're always willing to help."
While the death sparked public health concerns on social media, Russian authorities stated that the situation is under control. Trump has previously expressed a willingness to work with Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite ongoing tensions related to Russia's war against Ukraine.
