Trump Mocks New York Lawmakers for Replacing 'Mother' with 'Gestating Parent'

Former President Donald Trump on Friday derided New York Democrats, including Gov. Kathy Hochul, for passing legislation that replaces terms like "mother" and "father" with "gestating parent" and "non-gestating parent" in state laws related to surrogacy.

Speaking at a rally in Syracuse, Trump referred to the lawmakers as "radical left lunatics" and mocked the new terminology. "You can no longer say ‘mother, hi mom!’ it’s ‘hi gestating,’” Trump told supporters. “‘Hi gestating, I love you so much gestating.’”

The legislation also reportedly changes "paternity" hearings to "parentage" hearings. Trump accused Hochul of supporting "transgender mutilation of your children" and "men in women’s sports."

Trump urged attendees to vote for Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for governor, to replace Hochul. "New York needs to throw out this radical left lunatic and elect Bruce Blakeman," Trump declared.

Blakeman, who also spoke at the rally, criticized the "parentage" bill, stating that "they want to take control away from parents. They’re denigrating moms and dads. They’re letting Albany make the decisions that should be up to parents."

Recent polls indicate a close race for the New York gubernatorial election. A Marist poll released Wednesday showed Hochul leading Blakeman by 11 points, while a Siena University survey last month had Blakeman within single digits.
