Trump Mocked for Daylight Saving Time Comments
Former President Donald Trump expressed frustration with daylight saving time, drawing criticism for his remarks on how clocks change.
Former President Donald Trump recently voiced his objections to daylight saving time, suggesting the practice is "stupid" and causes financial costs. Speaking at a rally in Corinth, Mississippi, Trump described the twice-yearly clock change as a "ridiculous" practice that "drives everyone crazy."
He contended that some clocks automatically adjust, implying a misunderstanding of how time changes occur for different types of timepieces. Trump also shared a personal anecdote, claiming he was once late for an important meeting due to the time shift. Additionally, he suggested that more daylight in the evenings could help deter crime and argued that churches and municipal buildings might avoid hazardous crane use to adjust clocks.
Prior to the rally, Trump used his Truth Social platform to advocate for the Senate to pass a bill making daylight saving time permanent. The House of Representatives had previously approved such legislation over the summer.
Trump's comments on daylight saving time quickly became a target for online criticism. Users on platforms like X, formerly Twitter, mocked his remarks. Keith Olbermann questioned Trump's awareness, suggesting he had never encountered a hazard like an open manhole cover in 80 years. Journalist Robert Lusetich commented on a video of Trump's remarks, stating, "The dumbest person in America and the president should be two different people." Another user referenced Trump's past boasts about his cognitive test performance, sarcastically noting his ability to identify a giraffe.
