Trump Launches 'AI Force,' Dismisses Superintelligence Fears as 'Hoax'

Former President Donald Trump announced Saturday the formation of a new "AI Force" and the appointment of a dedicated "AI czar" to monitor the artificial intelligence industry. Trump stated the initiative's purpose is to prevent "bad practices" within the sector.

He reiterated his stance that concerns about artificial superintelligence are a "hoax," comparing the current apprehension over AI to what he has characterized as other fabricated issues, including the Russia investigation, debates over transgender athletes in sports, and his own impeachments.

"We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. "However, we will also be looking for BAD" actions through the existing criminal justice system.

Trump drew a parallel between the "crazed Data Center attack" and what he described as a direct assault on AI. He stated that his new "AI Force" would be similar to the Space Force, which he created during his first term as president and deemed a "tremendous SUCCESS."

He indicated that he is in the process of screening "High I.Q. individuals" for the newly created AI position.

The announcement comes as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, with tariffs and AI technology anticipated to be key topics of discussion. Bessent previously stated that the meeting would cover "both open and closed-weight models" of AI.

Trump's remarks follow a period of increased calls in Congress for legislative action to establish regulatory "guardrails" for AI, spurred by warnings from figures within the technology industry.
