Donald Trump, during remarks at the U.S. ambassador's residence in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday, drew laughter when explaining his wife Melania Trump's absence from his golf trip. He stated that while she was invited and is "very friendly" with the ambassador, she declined the seven-hour journey.

"Well, it's a seven-hour trip. Maybe I'm not that friendly," Trump recounted Melania's alleged response, which was met with applause from the attendees. He added that he had urged her to "Put on a Make America Great Again hat and come on, let's go."

Trump arrived in Dublin for a two-day non-state visit focused on meeting business leaders and attending the Irish Open golf tournament at his resort in Doonbeg. His itinerary also includes meetings with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin and Irish President Catherine Connolly.

Melania Trump did not accompany her husband on this trip to Ireland. She had, however, attended a commemoration at the Pentagon on Friday for the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
