Trump Jokes About Examining Senator's Body After Learning of Football Past

President Donald Trump recounted Monday that he examined Sen. Jon Husted’s physique upon learning the Ohio Republican was a college football player. Speaking at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, Trump told attendees that he was surprised to discover Husted’s “athletic prowess” at the University of Dayton.

"I don’t do this with men very often. I started examining his body because I didn’t know he was a great athlete,” Trump said. “And I looked and I watched up and down. I looked at his ass."

The remark, which drew laughter from the crowd, was part of Trump’s larger effort to endorse Husted, who is running against incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).

Trump continued his remarks about Husted's physique, noting, “And then I looked at his hands. Look at his hands. He’s got these, like, claws. And I got it… you are a great athlete.” Trump added that he had not known about Husted's athletic background because "he doesn’t talk about that."

He also suggested that Husted’s poll numbers have improved in Ohio since voters became aware of his past as an All-American defensive back for the 1989 Division III champion Dayton Flyers.

Trump characterized Brown as “the candidate of the Marxist, the communists and the anti-American radicals who want to tear down America’s heritage.” He criticized Brown’s record, stating, “He was here during a very dark period for our country” with a poor economy and border security.

The president warned that Ohio risked being "plundered, ransacked and destroyed" if Democrats, including Brown, were elected. He urged attendees to vote for Husted and GOP gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to prevent the state from being "destroyed like Minnesota is being destroyed."

Former NFL coach Jon Gruden and influencer Jake Paul were on Air Force One with Trump for the trip to Ohio. Gruden, a college teammate of Husted's, introduced Trump at the rally. Paul, a native of Cleveland, also spoke, warning against what he described as "evil" Democratic candidates.

Also present at the rally were Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), and Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio).
