Trump Invites Mayor Mamdani to White House After NYC Meeting
Lip reader reveals president's offer to "see how I work" following a 90-minute discussion on immigration and a Queens housing project.
President Donald Trump extended an invitation to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to visit him at the White House, suggesting Mamdani "see how I work." The offer came after a 90-minute meeting between the two officials at Gracie Mansion on Monday.
A lip reader revealed Trump's statement to Mamdani, which included, "I'll look after you, you look after the New Yorkers. And we can both make it work. I wanna support you, help me. Come with me to the White House – see how I work."
The meeting focused on immigration issues and a housing development project in Queens for which Mamdani is seeking federal assistance. Trump also shared anecdotes about Gracie Mansion during the discussion.
This encounter follows a previous meeting between Mamdani and Trump at the White House in February, after which Trump described Mamdani as "a nice guy." Mamdani had characterized that earlier meeting as "productive."
Following Monday's reunion in New York, Trump reiterated his positive assessment of Mamdani to reporters. "I've seen it with numerous different mayors, and I said some great ones and some not so great ones," Trump said. "So, hopefully you're going to be a great one. I'll be able to say you're going to be a great one, and you're off to a good start."
The White House had not immediately responded to a request for comment as of Tuesday.
