Trump Greets Presidents Cup Crowd with Fist Pumps, Jokes About Speech

Former President Donald Trump continued his weekend of sports events on Sunday with an appearance at the Presidents Cup golf tournament in Medinah, Illinois. Arriving at the country club outside Chicago for the final day of the competition, Trump was met with cheers and chants of "USA! USA!" from the assembled crowd.

Dressed in a dark suit and red tie, Trump smiled, pumped his fists, and blew kisses to the spectators. He later took to the microphone and lightheartedly addressed reports that he had requested 15 minutes to speak at the event. "The fake news media will say I got a very bad reception. We got a good reception!" Trump told the crowd. He added, in reference to PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, "He said, could you make a short speech? I said, no, I don't have the courage to make a speech - these people want to see golf, they don't want to hear speeches!"

Trump, who served as honorary chairman of the event for the second time, was present for the Sunday singles matches. The U.S. team entered the final day trailing the International team by a score of 10.5 to 7.5. Enhanced security measures were in place at Medinah during his visit.

This appearance followed Trump's attendance at a college football game on Saturday. He was present at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee, to watch the University of Tennessee Volunteers play. Trump appeared on the stadium's jumbotron during the game, acknowledging the crowd's ovation with fist pumps. He was seated with Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn. Air Force One also performed a flyover above the stadium prior to the game.

Trump is expected to return to the White House later Sunday evening and participate in the Presidents Cup trophy presentation ceremony.
