Trump Greenlights Firing Squad for Fort Hood Terrorist

President Donald Trump has authorized the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist responsible for the 2009 Fort Hood massacre, by firing squad. The decision clears the way for the execution nearly 17 years after Hasan killed 13 people and wounded 32 others on the Texas military base.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced Monday that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth had recommended the execution, and Trump's approval follows this recommendation. The Army secretary will determine the specific time and location for the execution. Parnell stated, "Judgment day for Hasan has finally come."

Hasan opened fire on soldiers at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009, shouting "Allahu Akbar" during the attack. The incident remains one of the deadliest non-combat attacks on U.S. military personnel. The Justice Department has recently readopted the firing squad as a method of execution, a move that precedes this decision regarding Hasan.
