President Trump turned his attention to renovation projects at the White House, including plans for a new ballroom and helipad, in the day following substantial losses for Republicans in the midterm elections.
"You’ll be able to have dinners for as many people as you want. We had King Charles here, and we could," Trump said, detailing his vision for the under-construction White House ballroom. He also mentioned the new helipad, noting it was "so good I never even got sued."
These discussions of infrastructure projects come as exit polls indicated that 71% of voters believe Congress should increase its oversight of the president, and 62% blamed him for rising prices. Incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) vowed to block Trump's agenda.
The president's focus on renovations and infrastructure projects echoed his recent campaign appearances, including a speech at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool where he discussed plans to re-line the waterway. The New York Post reported that Trump had cheered himself up after the election results by discussing these building plans.
