President Trump ensured that opera singer Christopher Macchio performed on the National Mall for the nation's 250th birthday celebration, despite significant rainfall and wind that had canceled other planned performances. Macchio, known as "America's Tenor," was scheduled to perform on July 4, 2026, after a day of severe weather had already impacted the event.

According to Macchio, the White House directly reached out to him, assuring him that arrangements were being made for his performance. "We have a team in place to make sure that you're where you're meant to be so that you can perform for the country," Macchio recounted being told. The Holbrook native, who previously sang the national anthem at Trump's second inauguration, performed for an estimated crowd of 150,000 people.

Macchio's performance included classics such as "Ave Maria" and "Nessun Dorma." He also led the crowd in a rendition of "God Bless America." Macchio described the atmosphere as filled with patriotism and a sense of history. "Nessun Dorma' literally means no one sleeps, and I told the crowd of 150,000 that no one sleeps tonight until we hear our president speak," he said.

Following the event, President Trump personally thanked Macchio for his performance. "I loved it most of all," Macchio recalled Trump saying. The tenor also mentioned that Trump expressed satisfaction that the event proceeded and many attendees were able to clear security quickly. Trump reportedly told Macchio, "You've got the greatest voice I've ever heard."

Macchio's participation in the July 4th event followed a period of significant personal and professional events, including getting engaged shortly before heading to Washington D.C. and a private performance for FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the World Cup.
