Donald Trump is set to attend the Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club, where he is expected to present the trophy to the winning team, a role he fulfilled in 2017. As President of the hosting country, Trump serves as Honorary Chairman, a role he has accepted for the second time. He is scheduled to be in Illinois for the event's final day on Sunday, following a college football game on Saturday.
However, the former president's attendance could be overshadowed by the performance of Team USA. The U.S. team is facing a significant deficit after a disastrous second day, mirroring a similar situation at last year's Ryder Cup when Trump was present. The International team holds a commanding 7-3 lead, marking one of the largest margins in Presidents Cup history through the first two sessions, after the U.S. was shut out in Friday's foursomes.
Despite the challenging position, U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker remains optimistic, stating that the event is far from over. "It didn't go great," Snedeker admitted, referring to Friday's play, but emphasized that only one-third of the tournament has concluded. "We've got a lot of high-character guys in our room. I love the way the guys competed today. It's a long golf tournament. I keep telling those guys this is a football game and we're not even at halftime yet."
Snedeker expressed confidence in his team's ability to recover over the remaining 54 holes. "I'm really confident in our guys. I'm really confident in what they bring to the table. I'm excited about this challenge. We have it in front of us for the next 54 holes really," he said.
Player Xander Schauffele acknowledged the strong play from the International team. "They played really well today," Schauffele commented. "If you look through their alternate shot, they were 4-under, 5-under through a lot, which is some really good golf today with it a little bit cooler and some really tricky pins."
