President Donald Trump stated Tuesday that he hopes investigators will locate Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie. The family has "gone through hell" during the nearly five-month search, Trump told reporters.
Speaking at Reading Regional Airport in Pennsylvania, Trump responded to a question about the ongoing efforts by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to find the 84-year-old Arizona woman. Her disappearance from her Tucson-area home on February 1 has drawn national attention.
On Tuesday's "Today" show, Savannah Guthrie made an emotional plea for public assistance, emphasizing that "somebody knows something" and that the family is "in agony."
The renewed appeal follows reports of a second ransom note sent to the family. This latest communication reportedly claimed Nancy Guthrie had died shortly after her abduction and included language expressing remorse, a detail considered unusual for ransom demands. Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of any ransom notes, and investigators have not identified the senders.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has previously stated that investigators and the FBI have examined numerous communications related to the case, with some deemed fraudulent and others considered potentially credible. Law enforcement agencies, including the Pima County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, continue to investigate.
Savannah Guthrie has repeatedly expressed her family's commitment to finding answers. "We love our mom. We'll never stop looking for her, never," she stated.
