Trump Establishes 'Super Intelligence Force' to Guide AI Policy
New task force aims to maintain U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence development and coordinate government efforts.
President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new government task force dedicated to artificial intelligence, which he has officially rebranded as "super intelligence." The initiative, dubbed the "Super Intelligence Force," will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton.
The task force's primary objective is to ensure continued U.S. leadership in the advancement of AI technology and to coordinate the federal government's interactions with the public on the matter. Other key figures involved include Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson and Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael.
This move follows Trump's recent declaration of intent to establish a board overseeing AI safety, a decision spurred by a commitment from leading tech executives to regulate the rapidly evolving field. The president signed an executive order on September 30 to adopt the term "super intelligence," stating that "artificial" made the technology sound "fake."
Some prominent tech leaders have begun adopting the new terminology. Multi-billionaire Elon Musk indicated on social media that his firm's AI platform, previously known as SpaceXAI, will be renamed SpaceXSI.
The establishment of this task force comes amid growing global concerns regarding the implications and potential risks associated with artificial intelligence. The naming of the national intelligence chief to head the new entity underscores the administration's focus on the strategic importance of AI policy.
